May First provides the technological infrastructure that our social movements need to communicate, organize and transform the realities in which we live without relying on large corporations. By building our own Internet together, we strengthen our collective power.
Technology services and political work
We maintain infrastructure so you can host your website, email, share documents and hold video calls. Individuals, collectives and organizations that make up May First’s membership know that May First, their technology cooperative, will fight for them in the face of threats. We have a strict privacy policy, but more importantly, we have a political commitment to our community.
In addition to the technology services we maintain, we participate in national and international networks of organizations working for social justice, we hold discussions and webinars on techno-political issues relevant to the current political moment and our memberships, and we hold workshops on how to make better use of the services we have. We create documentation, conduct research on our practices and listen to each other!
We decided to operate as a cooperative because the way we organize ourselves reflects the world we want to build. Decisions are made collectively, we seek solidarity, not profit.
We use exclusively free software because open source enables independence, knowledge, improvement. Free software allows us to audit, modify and truly control the tools we use.
Our work connects struggles. When a person or organization joins May First, they also join a network of people and organizations that defend the environment, sexual and reproductive rights, the right to housing or free transit in cities, human mobility, digital rights, shared knowledge. We work every day so that this connection generates practical and resonant solidarity.
