"Technology and Revolution!" Members Meeting: November 11th and 12th, 2016

The May First/People Link Membership Meeting will take place simultaneously in Brooklyn, Mexico City and on-line on Friday, November 11 and Saturday, November 12.

Process

Members are responsible for electing people to the Leadership Committee, choosing the priorities for the coming year, and approving proposed changes to the official documents.

  • Leadership Committee Nominations: This year, we will elect people to fill 5 seats on our Leadership Committee. Nominations are now open through November 12! Click here to nominate yourself or another member.
  • Submit documents: The deadline for sumbitting documents has passed. Please review the submitted documents for the meeting.
  • Choose priorities: The final selection of the priorities for the coming year will be made via small group discussions in Brooklyn, Mexico City and online during the membership meeting on November 12.
  • Vote for leadership committee candidates and changes to official documents: After the meeting, all members will vote online to both elect leadership committee members and to approve or reject proposed changes to the official documents. All members will receive an email with a unique link that will allow them to cast their vote. The election will take place between November 13th and November 20th. Links to the proposed changes and candidates for the Leadership Committee are available on our meeting documents page.

Friday, November 11, 2016: Training and Presentation Day

Friday workshops will happen separately in Brooklyn (in english only) and in Mexico (in spanish only). Online participants may join either the Brooklyn or Mexico sessions via a web-based video conference. Schedule subject to change.

  • 2:00 pm - 2:45 pm: Using the control panel, ownCloud and Jabber
  • 3:00 pm - 3:45 pm: Presentation on Denial of Service attacks
  • 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm: Movement work past, present, future

Mexico and online Spanish (all times America/Mexico_City)

  • 12:00 - 12:45: Talk: History and future of May First/People Link in the movement
  • 13:00 - 13:45: Workshop: Media and Sharing via the control panel
  • 13:45 - 15:00: Lunch
  • 15:00 - 15:45: Talk: The monopolization of the Internet and new forms of 21st Century exploitation
  • 16:00 - 16:45: Closing

Saturday, November 12, 2016

Portions of the Saturday sessions will by joint sessions, connecting both Brooklyn and Mexico locations via video conferences. Those portions are labeled “joint.” The remaining sessions will take place separately. Most sessions will also be broadcast online with the ability of members to submit questions via text chat while watching full video and audio. Those sessions are marked “online.”
